Learn to surf sessions for kids experiencing disability

O2 Active is excited to be teaming up with Surfing WA to offer surfing sessions to all our paediatric and youth NDIS clients as part of our 2023 program (From Jan 2023).

Participation in sports can have physical, emotional and social benefits for all people. Surfing offers a fun, inclusive and non-competitive environment, where kids experiencing disability can reap the many social and psychological benefits of being amongst peers, in nature. Surfing is also a great form of movement, especially for building strength, balance, coordination, fitness and concentration.

Being in the surf can also teach vital water safety skills that are especially important given the significance of the ocean in Australian culture. Together with ocean awareness, surfing itself creates a direct connection to the water, allowing us be present in the natural environment, which can often have a stress-relieving effect.  

Why not try something new this new year and get involved in surfing!

There is nothing better than the feeling of catching a great wave, and the wonderful calming effects that come from being in the water (often something we don’t get from other sports).

What’s involved:

• One-on-one or small group sessions with the senior coaches at Surfing WA Surf School (max 5 participants/group)
• 4-day program (4 x 2 hr lesson program) OR private lessons (90 mins)
• Open to kids and adolescents
• A whole lot of fun, no prior surfing experience required!

Experienced coaches at Surfing WA will teach a range of skills suited to participant goals:

• Surfing technique
• Equipment familiarisation
• Learning to read the surf
• Surf safety (identification and management of hazards)

Cost: 

• The cost of surfing sessions can be covered by NDIS funding from Core or Capacity Building.
