NeurodiverGENT Youth gym & Strength Program

Our neurodivergent program builds strength, confidence, and independence through gym-based training and was born from our extensive experience in this field, spanning over two decades. Throughout this time, we’ve witnessed the profound impact that exercise can have on individuals with autism and ADHD. Our sessions are designed to be a positive influence, guiding neurodiverse youth on a trajectory of early intervention that can truly make a difference whilst teaching them while teaching safe and effective gym use.

We understand every child is unique and we are committed to providing a program that caters to their specific needs.  That’s why we offer both one-on-one sessions and our Neurodivergent Youth Group Program over an 8 week term. Our group sessions of 1:6 ratio of therapist to children provide opportunities for social interaction, communication, cooperation and building valuable peer relationships. Studies consistently show that  physical activity plays a pivotal role in improving the lives of neurodiverse children and youth including the physical, mental and social health.  Recognizing the pressing need for support, our program is open to children with a current diagnosis and for those who find themselves on lengthy waitlists for diagnoses. We are committed to providing assistance when it’s needed most.

We foster the development of confidence, competence, coping skills and a positive relationship with physical activity.

Through a fun, social and supportive environment our O2 Active exercise physiologists help participants

  • Establish a lifelong positive  relationship with movement
  • Improve social, mental and physical  health outcomes

What our client’s say:

“I am so glad we found you. I can see the difference in James already. Your team and program have been so wonderful. Usually, James protests and doesn’t want to participate in activities, but not with your program. It has made things much easier for all of us.”

Mum of James (11 years old).

Exercise before school is known to be particular beneficial for neurodivergent children to:

  • Improve focus and attention. This is related to regulating the release of neurotransmitters like dopamine which play a role in attention and executive function.
  • Reduce hyperactivity and impulsivity in class. Exercise is an outlet for excess energy and can help the children better control their impulses.
  • Enhance mood and emotional regulation. The endorphins released during exercise and through a sense of achieving are natural mood boosters – this can help children stabilise moods and better regulate and express their emotions.
  • Reduction in stress and anxiety for the day ahead.
  • Enhance brain function. Exercise is known to release brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), this supports brain health and cognitive function.
  • Improve self-belief. By strengthening the body, children often increase their belief they can conquer other areas of their life.
  • Increase social interactions with their peers.
  • Improve sleep quality.
  • Up-skill in sporting motor skills and rules to be able to participate in school or community sport.
