Cardiac Exercise Rehabilitation
Our Programs:
Preventative programs for conditions such as hypertension and arterial plaque build up.
Pre-habilitation programs for patients awaiting cardiac surgeries or procedures where appropriate.
What is Cardiac Exercise Rehabilitation?
Cardiac exercise rehabilitation is a structured program that combines safe and effective, individually tailored exercise interventions with education and lifestyle support to help individuals recover from cardiovascular events, surgeries or conditions and hypertension.
Delivered by accredited exercise physiologists and multidisciplinary teams, the program aims to enhance physical function, improve cardiovascular fitness, reduce the risk of future events, and promote overall well-being. It focuses on clinical assessments, safe exercise prescriptions, self-management strategies, and continuous monitoring to optimise outcomes while addressing the unique needs of each patient.
Our program uses data and tracking to set specific tailored patient parameters, ensuring safe and effective exercise to maximise patient outcomes. We provide regular updates to cardiologists and GPs on any changes that may impact the patient’s care, ensuring their safety and continuity of care. We aim to help patients return to a level of heart health that is better than prior to their cardiac event, surgery or diagnosis.
Prevention and Improvement
- Prevent disease progression or promote symptom regression.
- Decrease morbidity and mortality rates.
- Reduce individual and community healthcare costs.
Physical Function and Well-Being:
- Enhance cardiovascular fitness and functional capacity.
- Improve quality of life, including mental health and psychosocial well-being.
Big Picture Approach
- Facilitate healthy lifestyle behaviour changes.
- Foster effective collaboration between clients and healthcare professionals.
Conditions and Procedures Supported by Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac Surgeries and Interventions
- Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG).
- Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI/stents).
- Valve replacements (e.g., AVR, TAVI).
- Prehabilitation and rehabilitation for heart/lung transplants and LVAD support.
Cardiac Conditions
- Post-myocardial infarction (if medically stable).
- Stable angina and controlled hypertension.
- Compensated heart failure.
- Valve diseases (e.g., aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation).
- Peripheral vascular disease (PVD).
- Cardiomyopathies (caution with hypertrophic variants like HCM/HOCM).
- Congenital heart conditions (e.g., Tetralogy of Fallot, TGA, ccTGA).
Cardiac Arrhythmias and Conduction Issues
- Most arrhythmias (e.g., atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, tachycardias, Brugada syndrome, long QT syndrome).
- Conduction defects (e.g., sinus node/atrioventricular node blocks, bundle branch blocks).
Implanted Cardiac Devices
- Pacemakers (PPM).
- Implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs).
- Event recorders.
The Heart of Recovery
Our programs focus on optimising your physical and cardiovascular condition to assist in improving heart health, preventing surgery or improving surgical outcomes and support a smoother recovery.
Through tailored exercise plans, education, and close monitoring, we aim to strengthen your heart, enhance your functional capacity, improve your confidence to be able exercise within a safe range and build resilience ahead of your procedure. Our team of accredited exercise physiologists works alongside your healthcare providers to ensure every step is safe, effective, and aligned with your unique needs. By preparing your body for surgery, we help reduce the risk of complications, shorten hospital stays, and set you on the best path toward recovery.
The Lifesaving Impact of Cardiac Rehabilitation
We provide ongoing care to help patients maintain and build on their progress. We ensure a positive exercise experience while achieving meaningful outcomes.
Our long-term maintenance programs and supervised exercise sessions are designed to:
- increase exercise tolerance and functional capacity,
- improve cardiovascular health (such as blood pressure, lipid profiles, and body composition),
- and enhance mental well-being by reducing stress and anxiety around exercise.
