Massage is a very popular remedial treatment, it not only feels good, but it also has a range of health benefits and healing properties. It is particularly beneficial for office workers that spend hours of the day seated at a desk. Back and neck pain, circulation issues, headaches and stress are some common problems associated with sitting at your desk all day.

So how does massage assist us? Beneficial massage techniques include myofascial release, deep-tissue massage, postural taping, cupping, sports massage and trigger-point therapy, delivering a customised release for everyday performance.

Benefits of Massage

Therapists can use techniques to address a specific injury, postural or joint issue, or medical condition. A recent study investigated twenty-four adults with chronic low back pain, and over a five week period they received a 30 minute massage twice a week. At the end of the study, subjects reported improved sleep, less pain, depression and anxiety, with an increase in serotonin and dopamine levels 1. In conclusion, massage therapy improved both physical and mental wellbeing.

Other benefits include:

  • Increased joint mobility 1
  • Improved sense of general well-being 2
  • Improved circulation and lymphatic drainage 2
  • Reduced muscular tension 2
  • Reduced stress 3
